Annotated Bibliography

Chaplin, Charles. My Autobiography. New York: Plume, 1992.
This autobiography is a very reliable source on the life of Charlie Chaplin. Not only are the dates       and facts accurate, the book delves into the life of Charlie Chaplin at a personal level. His thoughts and emotions that he felt throughout various portions of his life are all in the pages of his book. The combination of accuracy as well as personalization makes this an excellent primary source to obtain information on the life of Charles Spencer Chaplin. I used this book for almost every aspect of my MGP and it was a very reliable source on information because it was written by Chaplin himself. Undoubtedly, this is the most accurate and information piece I have used.

"Charles Chaplin." The Internet Movie Database (IMDb). IMDb. 12 Dec. 2008 <http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000122/>.
This online database consists of thousands of different actors and movies that have appeared over the years. Their main purpose is to provide biographical information on the actor as well as enlighten the reader on their various films and projects. The website was more fact based than my other sources, and provided very little information on the personality of Chaplin. This was a good resource to quickly look up facts about Chaplin when needed. As this site has many more actors and movies in their database, it is safe to say that the information provided is accurate. The audience they present this information to is people who want to look up specific information about an actor or actress, or even a movie that has been made.

"Charlie Chaplin is a Person as Well as an Impersonator." San Francisco Chronicle 12 Mar. 1922: F8.
The main focus of this article is on Charlie Chaplin's film "My Trip Abroad" and focuses on how this "emotional holiday" that effected all of London was created by the author. The article is a little more focused with the character of Charlie Chaplin and uses direct quotes to enhance the validity of the article. The main purpose of this article in my MGP was to get a more impersonal view of Chaplin, as I had read his own autobiography already. The audience for this article is the people in California that subscribed to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Dormio. "BBC - h2g2 - Charlie Chaplin." BBC - Homepage. 30 June 2004. BBC. 28 Dec. 2008 <http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A2754191>.
This site pieces together information from many different sources to create an overall picture of the controversies in Chaplin's life. Although the author talks about other aspects of his life as well, this website was mainly used for researching the Limelight controversy behind Chaplin. The BBC is known for publishing accurate news, and therefore the validity of this site is confirmed as well.

"Mr. and Mrs. Chaplin Fooled 'Em All." San Francisco Chronicle 24 Nov. 1918: 4.
This newspaper article provided a third-person view on something that I had already read about, which was Charlie Chaplin's marriage with Mildred Harris. It seems more like gossip that coverage of an actual story, deciding to focus more on questions that the public may have for Chaplin or analyzing why he married. The validity of the article is indisputable as it is part of a reputable newspaper, but Chaplin's autobiography gives more of a personal view on the matter. The audience for this publication was a lot of the people in California at the time.
